Highlights from the past week at Metaversum:
Enjoy your weekend!
Our partners over at BigWorld have picked up the news about Twinity passing 100K members.
Some highlights from the past week at Metaversum:
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Virtual Worlds News has a nice roundup of investment in virtual-worlds related companies in 2008. This includes a mention of Metaversum:
Metaversum, which received an undisclosed, multi-million Euro investment towards its mirror world, Twinity. The recurring them for the over-18 set is clear: even in a virtual world, reality is key. Whether that touch point is made through a social network and real-world friends or by mirroring the physical environment, the older we get, the more investors expect us to shy away from fantasy–unless, of course, that’s the pure fantasy of MMOGs.
Indeed reality may be the key, as Kzero also mentioned recently.
You can find an MP3 file of my interview on 93.8 Live FM here in Singapore on box.net. The main subject of the interview was Metaversum’s involvement in Co-space.
We recently entered a partnership with BigPoint, and you can read more about it on Virtual Worlds News and Worlds in Motion. There’s some speculation on what exactly this will look like. All I can right now is that you’ll have to wait a bit to find out.
Metaversum, developer and operator of the 3D online world Twinity, has been awarded funding from the mutli-agency IDM R&D Programme Office hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore to develop geo-tagging and geo-located media streaming in Twinity. In another part of this project Metaversum will also development advanced virtual city building tools to facilitate the construction of virtual Singapore in Twinity. Metaversum has already begun signing up local media, content, and brand partners in preparation for next year’s launch of virtual Singapore in Twinity. (more…)
The BBC recently ran a story titled “Virtual worlds carve out new path“. The article features a section based on an interview with our CEO, Jochen Hummel. On that page, this interview is the second video, towards the middle of the page.
Some highlights of what the BBC reported:
Capturing the twin trends of social networking and fascination with 3D worlds, the Berlin-based firm is creating a backdrop that allows users to hang out in some of the world’s most famous cities.
…
“Fantasy worlds give you freedom and allow you to fly but the fantasy element limits them for the real world,” said Jochen Hummel, the chief executive of Metaversum, the company behind Twinity.
